atom 3 is an electronic music trio featuring multi-instrumentalist and sound designer Paul Geluso, guitarist and composer Orlando Legname and drummer and composer Joe Pignato.

The group’s performances are marked by extended improvisation, atmospheric audio, sonic discharges inspired by musique concrete and the inventive use of hyper instrumentation. atom3 often collaborates with visual artists adding video, projected light and other visual components to their programs. The group’s work at venues in New York State has been met with enthusiasm by fans of the avant-garde, theatrical performance, electronica, improvisation, new technology and new music.

Geluso and Pignato, have a long history together collaborating as early as 1992 while both were graduate students at New York University. Some ten years later, the two were reunited after accepting teaching positions at the State University of New York, Oneonta. Geluso had also worked with Legname, who had spent time at New York University in the late 1990s.

atom3 made its debut in the spring of 2005, for the State University of New York at Oneonta’s New Music Concert series – a program spearheaded by Dr. Legname. Since then, the group has performed at Hartwick College, Hamilton College, New York University, the Society of Electroacoustic Music Conference, and at New York City's Symphony Space.
